Meeting the Artist of the Year of the Dog Tet Stamp Set - Painter Pham Ha Hai

Oct 13, 2023

The "Year of the Dog" Tet stamp set features a design inspired by folk stone dog sculptures and the prized Phu Quoc dog breed, along with carefully selected cultural elements that embody the simple yet profound essence of Vietnamese culture.

The stamp set consists of 2 designs, square format, 37x37mm, designed by artist Pham Ha Hai in a graphic style. Prior to this, the stamp set had won first prize in the "Folk Elements on Tet Stamps" design competition, as judged by the design model competition board.

Design 1, with a face value of 3,000 Vietnamese dong, features an image of a father dog on a green background. Design 2, with a face value of 10,500 Vietnamese dong, depicts the theme of motherly love, with a mother dog holding her puppy on a pink-red background.

The stamp set is designed with refined and expressive illustrations, bridging traditional and modern elements within the artist's contemporary perspective. The artist drew color inspiration from Vietnamese folk woodblock prints, which are vibrant, rustic, and evoke not only emotional resonance but also a sense of depth and space reminiscent of lacquer paintings.

Artist Pham Ha Hai

Collecting Tet stamps is an indispensable hobby for stamp collectors because it carries the predominant spirit of New Year's wishes for joy, happiness, fulfillment, and noble aspirations.

In the spring, VOV5 accompanied stamp collector Pham Hao to visit the studio of artist Pham Ha Hai, the author of the Year of the Dog Tet stamp set.
